Kesha Shows Off Her Sequin Undies For Video

I just don’t get the whole Kesha thing. I really don’t. Her music is bland and boring and in the world of pop music, she isn’t really all that attractive. As she shoots her latest video in Downtown LA, I can’t help thinking I have absolutely no interest in looking at these pictures, hearing the song the video is being filmed for or even seeing the finished product. Pop music has really gone down the drain and that makes me a little sad. I know music snobs will say pop music has always been bad, and it’s certainly not my favorite genre, but there’s been some good stuff. I like Lady Gaga. I like Rihanna. I like Katy Perry. I don’t know why. There’s just something in their music that makes me want to dance around my house like a fool. Kesha makes me wanna go to sleep and not wake up until her career is over. I figure that won’t be long anyway.

  • Well said! PS. Katy Perry sucks balls. Ditto Gaga. Amen.

  • I dunno, I have a soft spot for Perry and Gaga. I can’t explain it. They’re basically the same person with different colored hair, but they’re music makes me dance-y. Kesha just kinda makes me nauseous.

  • Hehe you’re right there that they’re the same person.

  • There must be something wrong with you not Kesha. She is excellent. If you don’t like her that is your problem. Just go to youtube and see how many people have made videos with her songs. Everything she sings is an immediate hit.

  • Popularity does not equal talent. I’m well aware she’s popular, I just personally don’t understand why. I must be missing something. It doesn’t matter either way. I’m sure she’s not hurting from one person not buying her album (or two from the sound of Hooray for Boobies comment). As for whether or not there’s anything wrong with me, I can tell you with certainty, there’s plenty wrong with me, but not liking Kesha isn’t on the list. She just isn’t my cup of tea.

  • Hi there. I liked Kesha at first, but she does start to grate after a while. I like the fact she’s a ‘free-spirit’, and her album has some good songs, but her constant ‘hey let’s all go get drunk and party!’ shtick is a bit contrived and juvenile, I think.

Have to say though, I don’t particularly like Katy Perry as an artist either. She’s much less irritating and in-yer-face than Kesha, but there’s nothing remarkable about her as a musician – her voice is so whiny and screechy, and although she can make great songs when she wants to (like Teenage Dream), all too often she tries to distinguish herself from others by being vulgar and silly. I think her success this year is as much to do with her personal life and the fact she’s constantly in the press, as it is about her music, if we’re being honest.

I’m not particularly fussed about Rihanna either. She’s had a lot of good songs, and she impressed critics with her last album, but I still find it hard to take her seriously as an artist, and her new single (Only Girl) is so generic. She just doesn’t do much for me.

I’m a big fan of Lady Gaga though. She does annoy the hell out of me because she’s ridiculously pretentious, and she takes herself way too seriously, but she is one of the most forward-thinking pop singers around today, and she’s made many fantastic pop songs already – songs which have made a huge impact around the world, and have appealed to all kinds of people of all ages, not just pop fans.

Anyway, if you’re a fan of any of these artists, you should check out the Swedish singer Robyn, if you haven’t heard of her. She’s arguably better than all these artists, but sadly she doesn’t get the promotion they get, for stupid reasons, even though she could easily appeal to just as big an audience, given the chance. She’s just so awesome – she’s so versatile and can pull off any type of pop song with such ease, from the dancey stuff to the genuinely emotional, often combining the two. She’s effortlessly cool. It’s no coincidence all the critics love her, even the most notoriously hard to please of them. If anyone can restore your faith in today’s pop music, then she’s your best bet. I’d be happy to provide links to listen to her music if you want, if you aren’t aware of her.

That’s my views anyway. I’m a big music fan as you can probably tell!

  • Hey James, thanks for the comment!

I’m also a huge music fan although I’ll admit, I tend to shy away from pop. Katy, Gaga and Rihanna are the main exceptions although there are a few more. It just so happens Robyn is one of them. I remember her from way back when with Show Me Love and Do You Know What It Takes. As a matter of fact, I still have Robyn is Here on cassette and CD! I didn’t know she was still recording until I heard Handle Me on the radio. It’s funny, I knew it was her right away. Love her! She has such attitude and a sort of natural charm. She doesn’t have a lot of the same theatrics most other pop musicians have which is probably, and sadly, a big part of the reason she doesn’t get as much attention. I don’t know if I’d say I like her more than the other girls I talked about, but I think she’s definitely up there among the best.

I agree, Katy isn’t really the most unique artist out there, but there’s something about her I really enjoy. She does tend to be a bit over the top. Perhaps that’s what I like about her. I hate (and I mean HATE) ‘I Kissed a Girl’ but I like a lot of her other stuff. Again, though, pop music isn’t the type of music I’d normally listen to. Perhaps it’s just that I’m not really all that picky when it comes to pop music.

I feel like I may have been a bit hard on Kesha in my post. I suppose it really comes down to personal opinion. I don’t like Kesha and I can’t explain why. There’s not really anything about her in particular that bothers me – or her music for that matter. I just don’t find her all that special. On the other hand, I can’t explain why I do like Katy Perry. I guess people are going to like what they like.

I’m not sure if she’s your cup of tea, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Sia lately. She’s perhaps a bit more on the jazzy side of the spectrum, but I really like her. She does a cover of Oh Father by Madonna that’s spectacular.

  • Hi again :)

I am a big pop music fan, although over the last few years I’ve tended to stray from most of the stuff that’s in the charts. I’m mostly into electro-pop and other electronic music like Royksopp, who I adore.

I’m glad you’re also a fan of Robyn. Her 2 albums from this year – Body Talk part 1 and part 2 – are totally awesome. The 3rd and final part is out later this month and includes 5 songs from the first 2 parts, and 5 new songs which I can’t wait to hear.

I can see why you like Katy Perry though. Although I’m not a fan, I can see that a lot of her music is really fun and she comes across as a likeable person. She’s not meant to be taken too seriously and she captures the fun and innocence of youth quite well in her music.

Kesha isn’t easy to like though. She clearly loves being young and going out to parties and getting drunk etc, and she’s obviously meant to appeal to those sort of young people, but she’s a bit too ‘out there’ and isn’t personable at all. Her singing style is irritating and a bit too in-yer-face as well. I just can’t see her appealing to many people on a personal level.

Sia isn’t very well-known here in the UK, but I am aware of her. I’ve heard a few of her songs but I’ve not really paid much attention to her, to be honest. But I’m always looking to discover new music, so I will definitely spend some time to listen to her music when I get the chance.

  • OK guys…I understand you don’t like Kesha…but how can you say so rude things like…wish the end of her career ?

I mean…how juvenile you guys may be sometimes…I’ve read a lot of stupid comments (on a lot of websites) on Kesha, saying she is a drunken whore, that she sucks, or that she’ve got no talent blah blah blah…In what way insulting her is a solution ? why ? (ça ne fait pas avancer le schmilblick !)…I understand you want to make your point but no use to say so hateful ! I wanna understand why everyone is bullying her ? she makes her music as she feels it and as she likes it damn it ! If you don’t like it fair enough ! But don’t use such words !
She has a lot of fans that love her music ! respect them, respect their choice, respect the artist herself ! please people

And I appreciate some guys whether Kesha fans or not, defend her because there’s not many of them on the internet…

(Why all the gossip news hate her ? she has her own style ! After all you like it or don’t like it !)

  • I think I can explain why you like Lady Gaga & Katy Perry and not Kesha-it’s bc you’re easily influenced by popular consensus. Animal was way better than anything Gaga, Perry, or Rihanna put out and I didn’t need people telling me that, I actually have all these albums and I looked up my play count on iTunes and Kesha topped them all. It’s trendy to hate on Kesha yet she was one of the best selling artists of 2010, hmmmmm.

  • Wow, I know this one’s a bit buried, but I didn’t see the comments until now. I think I still see Julie posting on here sometimes, so maybe you’ll see this comment.

It is trendy to hate on Kesha. I won’t deny that. It’s also just as trendy to hate of Gaga and Perry. In all honesty, pop music makes up a pretty small fraction of the music I actually listen to but I like that I like and you like that I like. That’s what makes the world great. Lots of people like lots of different things. I’ll admit, when all of these comments started getting posted on here about the Kesha post, I figured I was missing something. I own her album so I gave it another shot. I still don’t feel it. It’s just not my cup of tea.

My opinion of Kesha has nothing at all to do with popular consensus. I just don’t like her. I’m also not a bit fan of some of the other best selling artists of 2010. Alternatively, there are some that I really like. Just for the record though, hating on people hating on Kesha is just as trendy as hating on Kesha. If you look hard enough at anything these days, there’s probably a trend behind it.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – record sales and popularity have nothing to do with talent. I, personally, don’t find Kesha talented. That doesn’t mean I’m not gonna give her a chance when the next album comes out. I might love it. I don’t condemn an artists based on a few albums I wasn’t crazy about. If I love it, I’ll come back to this very thread and admit how very wrong I was. You have my word.

In the end, I’m just some girl that lives in the middle of nowhere that writes about celebs. In the grand scheme of things, my opinion doesn’t matter in the least. If Kesha read this post, I’d have to imagine she’d laugh at me, call me pathetic and go on with her day. Yeah I can be mean sometimes, but that’s life and like it or not, that’s my job. This is a forum where I voice my opinions and I always welcome healthy debate. What better way to open yourself up to new things than to hear an opposing opinion. If you don’t agree with me, let me know. I’ll defend myself and hope you’ll do the same.

Also, just as a side note, I looked at my play count and none of the artists I mentioned in this post come anywhere near close to the top. The top five were Bob Dylan The Black Keys, The Shins, Pink and Kings of Leon. Lady Gaga was somewhere around the twenty mark with Perry far lower.

  • I agree, it’s fair enough if you don’t like her but she’s done nothing wrong and doesn’t deserve alot of the things said about her. I think she’s awesome not just good songs that are simple and very catchy but I think she has a good positive view on life and how to live. Also I reckon she is attractive when wants to be. I don’t think she is ment to be taken too serioulsy and I don’t think she takes herself to seriously, just about having fun, what’s wrong with that? :D

  • Fuck whoever wrote this, she’s popular for a reason because her music is simple and catchy, in my opinion she’s way better than lady gaga or rhianna (who I can’t stand) and she’s better then katy Perry in my opinion too. As for the sentence about het career being over soon i think that’s rediculas, she’s had 2 numbers ones already and hopefully more to come. Fair enough if you or anyone else don’t like her or her music but I and plenty ofothrt people do so don’t write shit like that. Atleast she’s doing what she loves.

  • Well that was a nice reply, thank you. But, I think it’s unfair to say Kesha doesn’t have any talent because she writes her own music and even music for other artists and they’re insanely catchy with witty lyrics and great hooks. It would be impossible to do that without talent. She sings live and puts on great shows with a lot of energy and she has great stage presence. She sounds the same live as she does on her albums. I can understand why some people don’t like her voice because it’s very sharp but when I hear it it just puts a smile on my face and instantly lifts my mood. To each his own I guess.
